Frequently asked questions

When can I start classes?
Usually you can start any Monday , unless it is a public holiday. Certain programmes have specific start dates. Check the detailed course information.

How old do I need to be to join the school?
In the junior school the minimum age is 14 (12-13 by arrangement) ; in the adult school it is 18. There is no upper age limit.

I cannot speak English at all. Will the classes be too difficult?
We offer beginner level classes which have recommended start dates.
Our teachers are trained to cope with beginner level students so don't worry. We also have native speaking counsellors for many languages to help outside the classroom.

Can I use wi-fi at school?
Yes, wi-fi is available free of charge at school. You will be issued with a password at orientation.

How many students are there in one class?
The maximum number of students in one class at the Newmarket campus is 15. 

What is the nationality mix?
It varies from month to month but in one year we welcome students from more than 25 different nationalities.

How big is the school?
This varies according to the time of the year but at the Newmarket campus it is usually between 50 - 90 students. Kiwi English is a "boutique" school where the teachers know every student. It is like a big multi-cultural family.

How many levels are there?
We normally have 6 levels from false beginner (A1) to advanced (C2).

What will happen on the first day?

Please come to Reception on the Ground Floor by 09:00 am on Monday morning. If you are in one of our homestay families they will help you to get to school.

After a short interview to confirm your English level you will have orientation with one of our student support staff. They will talk to you about your classes and how to make the most of your time at school and in New Zealand generally. Orientation information is also available on our LMS Schoology so you can access it at any time.  You will usually join classes after a short tour of the local area.

What should I bring to school on the first day?
